A New 13 Part Series in development from
HUMAN SCALE PRODUCTIONS and INCANDESCENCE
A Big Top, a Shipping Container, and 117 suitcases
The Incandescence troupe of international circus acrobats embarks on a rollicking adventure through the Far East. Sixteen gifted young performers from as far afield as Tanzania, India, Bulgaria, Canada and the UK pack up their show for an epic three month journey. Beginning with the organizational nightmare of packing up their eclectic circus, this motley cast of characters will haul their show to Asian audiences who've never seen anything like it before. After ocean freighting their trapezes, costumes, sets, oversized puppets, fire machines, stilts and big top tent, the performers will be met by a tent rigging crew of Thai mountain climbers in Malaysia. Their rolling convoy will then overland thousands of kilometers, performing their exciting brew of acrobatics, theatre, opera and contemporary dance for sold out audiences from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore. Their multi-vehicle cavalcade will then venture deep into the remote backwaters of Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam, where they will mount their performances free of charge.
Facing the obstacles of washed-out roads, close quarters, third world booking agents, language barriers and travel fatigue—not to mention the erection of a six-hundred seat canvas pavilion in the farthest flung of locals—the series will uncover the inner workings of a modern-day circus while Satya Lapham and her eclectic company of mischief makers lurch towards the unknown. When they're not thrilling audiences, the company will mount aerial workshops for excited youngsters in rural villages, leaving behind a trail of donated equipment and aspiring young acrobats in their wake. Like the circus caravans touring the dusty planes of the Wild West a century ago, Incandescence will forge a new path through the tropical swamps of the 21st century East.
